THE HISTORY OF LA MORA
|
he firs mention of the existance of this locale dates back to 1867 however the latin origin (mora=respite, stop) of its name denotes a significantly older origin and role in the feeding and refreshing of the wayfarer along the road which leads from Lucca to the Garfagnana.
When the Brunicardi family purchased it in 1946, La Mora was still a rustic tavern which served wine, sandwiches and fried fish from the nearby Serchio river.
Now totally redecorated and refurbished, it has become a restaurant whose refinement and graciousness do not belie the congenial intimacy of the original trattoria.
The gastronomical achievements, the result of constant evolution, have never foresaken their origins: the straightfoward, country cooking of the areas of Lucca and Garfagnana.
For lovers of fine wine, a visit to the beautiful and well stacked enoteca in front of the restaurant, is a must. |
